Wind and ridge recordings

About this collection

This collection holds 118 master sessions recorded on exposed ground above the drained fields, between October and April. The wind bed is the subject. Most sessions run for three hours or more, because gusts arrive in clusters and a short take usually misses the single event a studio needs. Eight-channel arrays were used on most sessions, with a pair of cardioid capsules on the lee side for close detail.

Using the wind beds

For a scene that needs a sustained wind, the saddle sessions are the safest choice, since their level changes slowly. For gusts that must land on a cue, the crest sessions carry the sharpest attacks. The formats page gives the size of each delivered format per hour, which matters more here than on the other collections because the eight-channel files are large.
