Field notes

Recent notes

These notes are short records kept by the working group between sessions. They cover weather, faults, changes to method and anything that will matter to the next person who opens a log. The longest of them is about a March session on the ridge, which is also the note that led to the change in windshield for harbour work.

  1. Notes from a March session
    • Ridge crest, 14 March, with the timeline of gusts and two equipment faults
  2. Cold store roof, January
    • The sheet metal was found to be a lighter gauge than the shed beside it, so the rain sessions were re-logged with the gauge written in.
  3. Slipway, low water, November
    • A tide table error meant two sessions were recorded on a rising tide. Both are kept and flagged.

Why notes are kept

A log describes what was recorded. A note describes what the working group learned while recording it, which is often more useful. The notes are dated and short, and they are not edited once written. When a method changes, the note says why, and the recording method page is updated to match.
