Slow texture
This page holds one short moving image and its sound. The picture is an abstract field of dark teal and ochre that drifts slowly across the frame over two minutes. There is no subject and no horizon, only tone, soft edges and grain. The player offers three sizes, and the smallest is listed first, so a browser on a slow line starts with that one.
What the picture shows
Fine grain runs over the whole frame and thickens in the darker areas. Around the edges there is a faint flicker, as if the stock were slightly decayed, and in a few places a light leak brightens one corner for a second or two before it fades. The shot fades in from black at the start and returns to black at the end, so it can be played through once or looked at for a moment.
What the sound is
The sound is a low wind bed, dark and filtered, with a slow swell about every twenty seconds. It sits quietly under the picture and does not follow its colour or its movement. Nothing in the sound marks a change in the picture, so the two can be used separately.
Files
Each download below is the same moving image at a different size. The smallest is the one to use on a slow connection, and the largest keeps the most grain.
